Yes, we just sent out a 3 month update and it’s not time for a 4 month, but Max has made some big strides this week that we just couldn’t keep to ourselves
In the category of “they grow up so fast” we have officially kicked Max out ….. of our bedroom at night! Last night he began sleeping in his crib, in his room. Now he woke up a couple of times to be feed, but he did that the previous night also so it wasn’t due to the crib (we think he is going through a growth spurt, at least that is what we are hoping and when he is done he will go back to sleeping through the night). What made us kick him out of our room? Well it is really that he was kicked out of sleeping in the pack and play. Although he had been getting big enough that he was going to outgrow it at any moment, the deciding factor was that he can now consistently flip from his back to his stomach!
For the last week or so Max has been rolling over on his side a lot (most of the time this also involves sucking on his arms at the same time). Well yesterday he was in his gym playing quietly so I started straitening up the family room. When I next looked at him he was on his stomach. “Whoa, how did you get on your stomach” I asked him. Needless to say, he didn’t “tell” me
After getting him back on his back, he proceeded to immediately get to his side and then back to his stomach. He did this many times throughout the day and then did it many times for his Dad when he came home. Since there is now a chance he might flip onto his stomach while sleeping, we decided he had to move to the crib since it has the firm mattress. Unfortunately, he still hasn’t mastered flipping from his stomach to his back
Another major milestone he reached yesterday was to laugh! It is extremely cute. Unfortunately he decided he wasn’t ready yet to share this with his Dad, but hopefully soon. He continues to have big smiles and coos! He is also continuing to play with his fingers and stare at his hands. Maybe it was the excitement of learning about his cousin’s arrival that spurred him on to new achievements
Okay, that is it.
Hard to believe, but Max is now 3 months old! It is incredible the “progress” he has made since being born. (Updated pictures will be available soon.) His favorite thing to do now is “talk”. (Okay, by “talk” we really mean squeal, coo and purr
Max typically sleeps from around 9:30pm until 6:30am. Of course sometimes he “forgets” to sleep through the night. But when he does wake up around 3:30am or so he is all business and quickly eats and then nods right back off.
We call him Mr. Sunshine in the morning because he is very happy and full of life. He chats up a storm while watching his musical mobile and working on his morning constitutional. Once he is done with all of that and has tired himself out, he goes in the swing while Mom works out on the elliptical. (Side note on the swing, it is actually the swing we bought Penny and Mark for Zoe. Although Greg could still probably use it, Daniel prevents him from doing so and so we have now
inherited it.) He usually ends up catching a few Zs during this time. His other activities still include playing in the Kick and Play bouncer (which still makes its home on our – or eventually KC’s kitchen table) and playing on his gym. He also likes playing with his Snoopy and we have been practicing having him grasp his pacifier and try to put it in his mouth (unfortunately most of the time it goes in his eye).
Although it might not sound like it so far, Max does have greater control over his limbs. His new favorite thing to do in the past week has been to hold his arms straight out in front of him. We call him Speed Racer or Racer X (depending on whether he is being good or bad) since he also likes to go “brrrrrrrr” at the same time. It really looks like he is driving a car. He also likes to look at his hands. He will open and close them and then turn his fist at different angles to view them. Of course it always cracks me up when he spends some time staring intently at his fist and then it suddenly flies up and hits him in the eye. He always looks surprised when that happens
The one thing he hasn’t mastered is taking a bottle. But hopefully he can learn that skill too. Mom was not able to go to the Redskins game with Dad since it apparently was going to take more than 2 days to “train” him. We now have a new goal of Sept 18 when someone from
John’s work has a party (assuming of course his babysitter Honorary Aunt Courtney is available
I think that is it from here. The only other thing I can think of that Max does sit around and wonder when his cousin Arjun is going to be born
Okay, Max is taking another nap so in the meantime I have thought of a few more things that he is now doing. Max is now very aware of his surroundings and is happy to just sit back and watch the world go by. He has taken to looking out the window in the family room. Max is very good at being able to follow you around the room. He will now sit on the couch and watch me move around not only the family room, but some of the kitchen while I am vacuuming. I think I might start taking him to the mall to watch all the people (especially if we keep getting all this rain associated with various hurricanes).
Max continues to like to take baths. He has started to splash around the water with his legs. Of course we think this is cute right up to the point when he pees in the bath water
One thing he doesn’t do anymore is pee on his bedroom wall while being changed, so that at least is progress!
Some of you might be wondering where the updated statistics are on Max’s height and weight. Max doesn’t go back to the pediatrician until he is 4 months old (when he has to have another round of those icky shots), but we tried to measure him the other day and think he is about 25 inches long. In the last few days it seems as if he has gotten heavier to carry around. Of course he is still a relatively tall and skinny baby so apparently we are still working on a
basketball/volleyball player
